The Return of True Winter

Our unseasonably pleasant temperatures of the 40s and lower 50s have ended abruptly with a high of 9 degrees, three inches of snow overnight... and the drippings of the bathtub faucet creating a sheet of ice in my tub.

Viva, Wy-snow-ming!

A sheet of ice in your bathtub?!? I'll quit complaining now. The ice, happily, stays outside my apartment ...

The house I rent is poorly insulated, and you can touch the underside of the tub from there.

So the wind blows, and the tub becomes a big icebox. I turn on the space heater in there and shut the door at least 1 hour before I take a shower, as it's not a place I want to be dripping wet without it.

The constant dilemma is thus: I can turn the heat WAY DOWN, save on gas, and freeze, or I can crank it way up, have a heating bill through the roof... and freeze anyway.

I'd rather my frozen corpse be found with a health bank account, thank you very much.

... i'm in your will, right?

Should that be incorporated into your obituary? "Fuzzy, of Mountain View, died unexpectedly of shower-induced hypothermia and frostbite ... he is survived by his family, his friends and his very healthy bank account." I write these things for a living ...

I always wondered what part of the Newspaper business you worked in, Sarah. Writing obits is one of these neat little jobs that give you two tools for social interaction. You can be a conversation starter OR a conversation ender depending on what your current needs are at that moment! Nice to have that flexibility.

And Brian, you're getting my Magic the Gathering Cards. I was going to leave them to Pearce, but I'm leaving him my PS3 instead.

I swear we will get that Boy to use electronics manufactured after 1983 even if I have to act from beyond the grave!

Obits are one of my many written talents; I have a special place in my heart (and my desk) for abused, misused or neglected punctuation, and I get to stress out over subject/verb agreement and the correct usage of its vs. it's. I'm a happy word geek.
